Midsummer’s Eve Giveaway Hop

Welcome to the Midsummer’s Eve Giveaway Hop, hosted by I Am A Reader, Not A Writer.

In a blog hop, participating blogs sign up to offer contests and giveaways for a limited time period.

Between June 21 and 24, 2011, one lucky “One Book Per Week” reader will win a $20 book store gift card. If you’re a local (Halifax, Nova Scotia) it will be from the independent bookstore of your choice. If from further afield, an e-voucher  from Amazon or Chapters. Open to readers in Canada, the US  and the UK only.

Midsummer’s Eve usually puts me in the mood for a fantasy novel. Right now I am reading book three of the Song of Ice and Fire series by George R. R. Martin.

For your chance to win, leave a comment below recommending your favourite fantasy novel or series. I am always looking for new reading ideas. For an extra entry, follow the blog, by email or RSS, and indicate this in your comment.

Thanks, and don’t forget to check out the fabulous giveaways from other participating blogs, see the full list at www.iamareadernotawriter.blogspot.com.

  1. Please count me in! I would definitely recommend MY FAIR GODMOTHER by Janette Rallison to read, or James Dashner’s THE MAZE RUNNER series, or PARANORMALCY series by Keirsten White. All very very good!

  2. Thanks! 🙂 I love Tamora Pierce’s novels – my favourite is probably the Protector of the Small quartet.

  3. I have just finished reading The Girl Who Circumnavigated Fairyland in a Ship of her own Making – different and aimed at middle school, but very good, fun read.
    I am a follower.

  4. I recommend “Mistborn” by Brandon Sanderson (Ocean’s Eleven set in a corrupt fantasy empire), “Jonathan Strange and Mr. Norell” by Susanne Clarke (magicians in the Napoleonic Era, written in the style of the times), and “The Name of the Wind” by Patrick Rothfuss (a conventional fantasy epic that plays with the conventions of fantasy epics).

  5. Tough to choose! I’m a big fan of fantasy, but I often read short stories (and I’m always horrible at choosing favourites). One series I’ve been enjoying lately is the Zamonia series by Walter Moers.

  6. Thanks for offering this great giveaway!

My mom’s been sick and I never got around to signing up for the Midsummer Hop, but I’m giving away a beautiful copy of Anna and the French Kiss on my blog Readerbuzz in June. I’d love to have you stop by and throw your name in the hat!

  7. I highly recommend Finnikin of the Rock by Melina Marchetta. There are two more books in the series that are forthcoming. Great YA fantasy.

    Thanks for the giveaway!

  8. Well, I mostly read YA novels…so I would say, Percy Jackson Series by Rick Riordan (Light Reading), and I’ve come to enjoy NightShade by Andrea Cremer, the sequel is coming out in July =)

  9. I really love Outlander, but then, who doesn’t? I’m working my way through The Earth’s Children series. That’s the series that starts with Clan of the Cave Bear by Jean M. Auel. Very good series!

  10. I recently really enjoyed Pandemonium by Darrel Gregory – more of an urban fantasy than anything else – but that may be my favourite permutation of the genre.
I follow you on RSS and you know where to find me 🙂

  11. My favourite fantasy series is one from my childhood: The Chronicles of Narnia. The Outlander series is on my TBR list.

I’m following you on GFC (Darlene), and my email address is darlenesbooknook at gmail dot com.

    Thanks for the giveaway!

  12. I suggest the Arthurian Saga by Mary Stewart. There are four books in the series and they are all really good!

    I follow through email.

  14. I’d have to say the Fablehaven series by Brandon Mull. It’s young adult, but still a fun fantasy series.

  21. Very interesting to see what people recommend! I’ll add my voice to Seth (Listener) and recommend the Mistborn books by Brandon Sanderson. He just won the David Gemmell Award for his latest novel, and he was handpicked to finish the Wheel of Time books after the sad passing of Robert Jordan. So you know he must be talented! I’d also recommend the Farseer Trilogy by Robin Hobb. She’s a fantastic writer, perhaps my all-time favorite.

Thanks so much for the giveaway and the chance to win!!

  24. Right now, I am reading Sacred Scars by Kathleen Duey, a trilogy called A Resurrection of Magic. AND IT IS PURE AWESOMENESS. I LOVE IT. It’s written in alternating chapters, from two points of view, and the style of writing is beautiful! I am pretty sure you will enjoy reading Duey’s books because she writes as if she’s in the settings she’s writing about. It’s amazing.

THANK YOU VERY MUCH FOR THE GIVEAWAY! (:

  48. Well my favorite fantasy series that comes to mind off the top of my head would be Robin Hobb’s Assassin’s Apprentice trilogy that continues on in the Fool’s Errand trilogy. I reread these when I want a good dose. I am also rereading the Game of Thrones series and recently finished the Sword of Truth. In my opinion these are all great.
